Audio UX® created healthcare’s most holistic sonic identity for Northwell Health. Working with Proper Villains, we transformed their Nurse Choir into a collection of proprietary playable instruments to create a brand theme and audio logo system. This groundbreaking work can already be heard in marketing, raising the voices that Raise Health.

Northwell Health partnered with Audio UX® and Proper Villains to create a revolutionary sonic identity system that would reinforce their “Raise Health” campaign while establishing a new leadership domain in healthcare: the therapeutic application of sound in clinical environments.

The cornerstone of this pioneering initiative was a radical concept: creating new musical instruments derived from the human voice, specifically the voices of the Northwell Health Nurse Choir. This approach ensured the sonic identity would do more than just represent the brand—it would authentically reflect the heart of the organization through its people.

Through meticulous recording sessions with ten staff members at our studios, we captured individual voices, group harmonies, and spoken phrases connected to Northwell’s mission. These vocal elements were then transformed through specialized sound design processes into a comprehensive sonic toolkit, including a distinctive Audio Logo, an expansive Brand Anthem, and a concise Sonic Fingerprint for time-constrained applications.

Seven essential characteristics define Northwell’s brand archetype, which guided the development process. These attributes were first distilled into concentrated “Notions”—pure sonic expressions—becoming the architectural foundation for the entire system.

The resulting sonic identity tells the story of a challenger brand with a healing presence. Intimate vocal textures create immediate emotional warmth, while accessible sonic elements like hand claps and stomps ensure universal relatability. The evolving compositions demonstrate how individual healing journeys merge into collective movement, mirroring Northwell’s commitment to healthcare transformation.

This system establishes a new paradigm for healthcare branding by positioning sound as a healing medium rather than merely a marketing asset. It authenticates Northwell’s community-centered approach by literally amplifying the voices of those who deliver care, creating a sonic experience that resonates with profound emotional authenticity at every consumer touchpoint.
