Abstract
Disputiful® is a startup founded by expats who advise dual-career couples on navigating their complex challenges and sharing their insights from living abroad. Since these couples live and work in various regions of the world for extended periods, we created soundscapes based on the Earth’s climate zones to reflect the atmosphere of each zone.
Description
With the development of the new brand Disputiful®, we created both a physical and digital space where dual-career couples can find support. Since these couples spend several years living and working in various regions around the world, we developed soundscapes and a color system inspired by the Earth’s climate zones (Polar, Temperate, Subtropical, and Tropical).
In alignment with the climate and predominant vegetation of each region, we defined colors and sounds that capture the atmosphere and unique characteristics of each zone. When visiting the company’s website, users are geographically located (if they consent to it), and their current coordinates are displayed on the side of the page. Additionally, the website’s color scheme and soundscape adapt dynamically to their present climate zone.
Key elements of the brand language include humorously modified city names that reflect the emotions of expats and their experiences in these environments. For the soundscapes we created, we selected a representative city for each climate zone. In total, we composed and produced five different soundscapes—four based on the climate zones and one dedicated to the Moon as a destination. When users select the Moon destination (“Fly me to Moonich”), the website switches to Dark Mode, accompanied by spaceship-like sounds.
The composition and sound aesthetics of each soundscape are designed to evoke the atmosphere and typical sonic associations of the respective regions. In the Reykjawish soundscape (Polar Zone), for example, organic pad sounds with long reverberation times create a sense of the vast landscapes of this region. Additionally, glass-like tones evoke the biting cold and icy surroundings. In contrast, the Wrong Kong soundscape (Tropical Zone) conveys a sense of untouched, dense vegetation, a mystical atmosphere, and an almost tangible tropical heat. The dominant tone of the soundscape was created using the legendary Juno 6, modified with effects to enhance its mystical sound, combined with authentic sounds from tropical rainforest environments. To enhance the user experience, real nature sounds were integrated into all soundscapes. Combined with color transitions, a brief geographic description, and personalized advice tailored to each climate zone, these elements allow the recipient to immerse themselves in the respective region or provide an initial vivid impression of a potential future destination.
