In November 2024, AES Germany and the AES Student Section Erlangen-Nuremberg hosted the “fathers” of mp3: Karlheinz Brandenburg, Ernst Eberlein, Heinz Gerhäuser, Bernhard Grill, Jürgen Herre, and Harald Popp. They told a captivating story from the format’s inception in the late 1970s to their 2000 victory of the Deutscher Zukunftspreis. The event offered a rare and insightful look into the history of the revolutionary mp3 technology.
