Dr Iain McGregor is an Associate Professor at the Edinburgh Napier University working in interactive media design and auditory perception. His doctoral research examined differences between sound designers’ expectations and listeners’ experiences through soundscape mapping. His work spans film, games, theatre, radio, mixed reality, robotics, and auditory display, with a focus on soundscapes, sonification, and listening in interaction. His patent application, Evaluation of Auditory Capabilities (WO2024041821A1), underpins research on accessibility, user experience, and auditory technologies. Current interests include human–robot interaction, auditory alerts in healthcare and transport, as well as immersive audio for virtual and mixed reality. He works with academic and industry partners and provides research leadership through supervision of MSc and PhD projects in sound design and perceptual technologies.
