Abstract
In a whiskey category dominated by heritage and tradition, Foxes Bow Irish Whiskey wanted to sound as distinctive as it looked. LAUDHAUS created a sonic identity rooted in the energy of Limerick, Ireland -blending local street recordings, custom sound design and multiple genres into a recognisable brand sound system.
Description
Foxes Bow Irish Whiskey was built to challenge the conventions of the whiskey category. While most whiskey brands lean into heritage, familiarity and traditional premium cues, Foxes Bow deliberately positioned itself differently — drawing inspiration from nightlife, street culture, sneaker aesthetics and contemporary music culture to appeal to a younger psychographic audience.
Named after Foxes Bow Street in Limerick, Ireland, the brand is deeply connected to the character and energy of the city itself. The visual identity already stood apart on shelf, but the founders understood that to create a truly joined-up brand experience, the brand needed an equally distinctive sonic identity.
LAUDHAUS was brought in to create a strategic sonic system capable of matching the same attitude and individuality as the visual language. The challenge was not simply to create a sonic logo or one hero track, but to develop a flexible suite of music that could adapt across different moods, stories and touchpoints while still feeling unmistakably Foxes Bow.
The thinking was closer to creating an EP for the brand than a traditional advertising soundtrack. The sonic identity intentionally rejected the expected sound of whiskey advertising. Instead, it drew from hip-hop, nightlife and the anticipation surrounding the first drink of the night. When the category zigs, Foxes Bow zags. A key part of the process was grounding the work in real local texture.
LAUDHAUS recorded the natural reverberations of the archway on Foxes Bow Street and transformed those acoustics into custom reverbs embedded throughout the sonic system. Recordings from neighbouring businesses including a pet store and barbers were also captured and woven into the identity.
The team additionally designed a bespoke synth tone inspired by the cadence and rhythm of the Limerick accent, turning the personality of the city itself into a recognisable sonic asset. The cork-pop, pouring and clinks of the Foxes Bow bottle also became percussion, helping the whiskey itself become part of the rhythmic DNA of the identity.
The final result was a complete sonic identity system including a sonic logo, flexible brand theme and four original tracks spanning multiple genres and moods while remaining connected through the same recognisable sonic DNA. The work transformed Foxes Bow from a visually distinctive challenger brand into one with a fully recognisable audio identity system designed to build memory and distinction across every touchpoint.
